Ann Arbor, Mich. — Adventures in HomeBrewing in Ann Arbor, Mich., is supporting the Pints for Prostates campaign with some special activities on May 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to mark National Homebrew Day and to start the countdown for the 2014 National Homebrewers Conference that will take place in Grand Rapids.

Adventures in HomeBrewing, located at 6071 Jackson Rd. in Ann Arbor will host a day of brewing, feature area homebrew clubs and guest speakers including Chris White of White Labs and John Blichmann from Blichmann Engineering. Raffles will be held during the day for a year’s supply of brewer’s yeast from White Labs (enter here) and a 10 gallon Blichmann Boilermaker Brew Pot (enter here).

From the Adventures in Homebrewing website…..

Adventures in Homebrewing would like to do things a little differently this year for National Homebrew Day. With the 2014 National Homebrew Conference in Grand Rapids right around the corner, we wanted to set the gears in motion. For anyone who has been to a NHBC, you know what I am thinking…for those that have not, lace up your boots and let us get you prepared!

What I am proposing is a Michigan Club Night dressed rehearsal: celebrate National Homebrew Day with our club bars, bar-b-ques, and pour some of our best brews. It would be an opportunity to meet the other home brewers in our state while preparing for 3500 home brewers from around the country that will invade Grand Rapids in 2014.

When? National Homebrew Day May 4th, 2013 10AM – 7PM

Where? Adventures in HomeBrewing in Ann Arbor

Why? Prepare the local clubs for the best damn conference the AHA has even seen

Who? We Want You!

What? A National Homebrew Day to talk about for years to come

Several clubs have already committed to the event along with a few big names. Chris White from White Labs yeast will be here for a little Q&A and John Blichmann is bringing a trailer full of his finest equipment to give you an unforgettable brewing demo. White labs has also indicated they may be able to include the Brewing Network.

What I would ask of the clubs is something along the lines of a food and beer tasting. We would not have enough room to brew 75 batches on that day, but maybe a dozen or so set ups (perhaps one per club). Adventures in HomeBrewing would offer prizes for best beer, best food, best club theme, maybe a best dressed. We can have other events: Euchre, Keg tossing (empty of course), Arm Wrestling (might be a bad idea). I am sure we can think of other fun ideas as the date moves closer.

I would like to get an idea of which clubs would be interested in participating. Is this something that your club would want to commit to?  Please discuss this as a group as I will be contacting club presidents over the next few days to see what the interest level is, and get an estimate on how many members would attend from each club.

I realize many clubs are associated with other stores and I do not want to pull business away from them on this day. If you are committed to your local shop, please support their efforts. At the same time, I would like to have as many participants as possible. I would like to discuss the 2013 conference with a hard hitting “Michigan Coalition of Brewers”. I want to arrange shipping of kegs from Michigan to PA. I also want to include as many clubs as possible for the 2014 conference.
