Asheville, N.C. — Pints for Prostates, in cooperation with the Prostate Conditions Education Council, is sponsoring a free men’s health screening event in Asheville, N.C., on June 10.

The men’s health screening will be hosted by Asheville Urological Associates at 1 Doctors Park in Asheville on June 10 from 5-7 p.m.  The screening will include a digital rectal exam and consult with Board Certified Urologist, Dr. James Brien, plus blood testing for PSA (prostate specific antigen), cholesterol, testosterone, HDL/LDL, triglycerides and glucose. Solstas Lab Partners will be handling blood draws for testing. The Prostate Conditions Education Council will provide free informative literature to participants.

“According to the National Cancer Institute 239,000 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year and nearly 30,000 will die from the disease,” said Rick Lyke, a prostate cancer survivor, drinks journalist and founder of the Pints for Prostates campaign. “Early diagnosis is the key to successfully treating the disease. This men’s health screening event will give men critical information so they can take charge of their health.”

A portion of the funds raised at Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting be held on May 31 are being used  to help underwrite the free men’s health screening event. More information is available at www.pintsforprostates.org.

The Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting  will be held at 66 Asheland Ave. in Asheville on May 31 from 6-9 p.m. Fewer than 50 of the 250 tickets for the Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting are still available. Iron Hill Brewery at 3 West Gay St. in West Chester and 3rd Wave Brewing at 501 N. Bi-State Blvd. in Delmar will donate $1 from the sale of JPA pints to Pints for Prostates. A special cask conditioned version of JPA will be available along with the standard IPA.
